Our domain is derived from a song I wrote during my music performance period, and is the final cut of my CD. The lyrics (only very distantly autobiographical) concern themselves with the difficulty of convincing powerful people of the value of a small-town talent. In the song, this problem is minimized by escaping into a sailing fantasy each night on a boat called "Maria." The complete lyrics and a playable MP3 of the song are available from the music page.
Educators work tirelessly in the trenches, where, for the child to the young adult, they serve as the first (often the only) line of defense against ignorance, and the apathy and disillusionment that it often engenders. The positive aspects of their work are often not recognized, and, as the most visible profession on the face of the globe, their mistakes are frequently exaggerated, even as they are held accountable for many of the mistakes of society at large. This site, and our work, is in celebration of the many teachers who beat those odds every day, and make a difference in the lives of their students. -- Jeffrey L. Jones
