Pre-program Final assessment
1.1.Builds positive relationships within and between school and community.
2 3

My interest and support for the largerTIPS community is best exemplified by my attention to electronic periodicals. I have been editor and primary contributor to TIPS, the Fayette County Educational Technology E-Zine, for over 2 and 1/2 years. It provides examples of classroom practice, news from special areas such as Assistive Technology and the Student Technology Leadership Program, and brief biographies of staff members of the Office of Educational Technology. EMCK E-LineIn addition, I am the sole editor and publisher of The E-Line, a technology e-newsletter sent to more than 1,500 educators throughout Kentucky.

1.2. Promotes leadership potential in colleagues
2 3

As editor of TIPS, I have provided a forum by which other technology resource teachers can provide leadership in technology integration in their schools. This might also describe several of my other Fayette County initiatives, including the Forums, LISTSERVs, and Stages of Teaching with Technology.

1.3. Participates in professional organizations and activities
3 3

I am a member of the following professional organizations:

I have attended the national conference of ISTE (NECC). I attend AECT's national conference every year. CKATC meets monthly, and I have attended approximately half of those meetings . I have also attended the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference (KTLC) all of the last six years.

1.4. Writes and speaks effectively.
3 3

As a 4-year veteran presenter at KTLC and in frequent leadership roles in my own office, I have ample opportunity to exhibit this indicator. My writing abilities are perhaps best illustrated by the series of editorials from TIPS. As an example, here is an essay, Why do we have to do this technology stuff?, on the importance of educational technology, which appeared in the October, 2003 edition. I also offer the essay  Climbing out of the Box (PDF format), written  as an assignment for EDC 732, Foundations of Curriculum Design.

1.5. Contributes to the profession knowledge and expertise about teaching and learning.
2 3

Since my primary responsibility in Fayette County is the support and professional development of other teachers, the list of contexts in which I meet this indicator would be quite extensive. Perhaps the best (and most recent) example would be the Stages of Teaching with TechnologyStages of Teaching with Technology website initiative, which directly addresses the issue of classroom technology integration strategies, complete with video examples and activities. This resource is available as a stand-alone resource, but I have also used it extensively in face-to-face professional development settings.

1.6. Guides the development of curriculum and instructional materials.
2 3

As a part of my professional responsibilities, I have gained extensive experience in this area, providing assistance to other teachers in the development of instructional units in both the Fayette County PET Projects program, and through the NSF/UCLA grant initiative IMMEX.

1.7. Participates in policy design and development at the local school, within professional organizations, and/or within community organizations with educationally related activities.
2 3

I have participated in both the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (at Bryan Station High School) and District Improvement Plan (with Fayette County) processes. I have also contributed to the development and refinement of Fayette County's District Technology Assessment, most notably through the support initiative Stages of Teaching with Technology . I also offer this District Technology Plan, a website I constructed which provides a theoretical technology plan for Fayette County, produced as an assignment for EDC548, Instructional Computing 2.

1.8. Initiates and develops educational projects and programs.
2 3

Perhaps this indicator is best exemplified by my participation in digital video production initiatives for the classroom. I have taught classroom workshops and professional development classes on the use of simple computer-based video production tools on many occasions. See StudioDV/8 (PDF format),  documentation for my KTLC 2004 workshop.

1.9. Practices effective listening, conflict resolution, and group-facilitation skills as a team member.
2 3

This follows directly from my role as a coordinator of programs in Fayette County. I offer one of the programs I coordinate, The Fayette County Video-Linked Classroom, asn an example of a program requiring a fair measure of these skills (see The Fayette County Video-Linked Classroom, a story on this initiative in the December, 2002 edition of TIPS).
